What is it DKC does?

 

In general we provide IT services for our clients.  We provide support, design and engineering services for most computer, network and internet activities.  Most of our clients are in San Francisco but we have clients thoughout California and Nevada.  Click here for more details.
 

Does DKC really offer a 100% Guarantee?

Why are your network so reliable? 

 

Because we work very hard at it. 

Keeping a network up and running is our number one priority.  When we manage a network we like to control everything:  the software, the hardware, the bandwidth provider, even the cabling! We try to insulate our clients from things that we know will cause problems.  We are very big on testing new products and keeping all software up to date with upgrades and service packs.

We spend considerable effort beta testing new products and when they are released we are for the most part prepared for our clients to take advantage of these new and better products.  We don't wait on others to test, we give our clients the benefits of the new products when they are available.
 

Is it true that sometimes DKC puts a hold on New Clients?
 
  That has been true in the past, but today we are actively looking for new clients.
 

Do we need to buy new equipment to have DKC service our network?
 
  No, but we will provide our clients with advice on what equipment to buy.  Equipment that is reliable and easily serviced is an important part of keeping your IT costs under control.  Click here for our current recommendations.
 

My computer is having problems.  What's the single best thing I can do to fix my computer?
 
  The single easiest and best thing to do is to shut your computer down and restart it.  Second, make sure you have all the Windows Updates from Microsoft.

Should I ever give my passwords or other security information to anyone at DKC?   No.  Please be aware that Dan Knox Consulting has never sponsored nor originated any emails requesting you to update or confirm your account information for security purposes. If you receive such an email, you are advised to delete it immediately. What is your Dial In number?
 
  415-869-1349.  Of course you need RAS access rights.

Is DSL a "good deal"?   Sometimes.  DSL is unreliable, it is cheap and fast and frankly it is more reliable now than it was a few months ago.  If you can afford to be off-line it can be a "good deal".  If you can't afford to be down then don't go with DSL.
 

Is a cable modem better than DSL?   Maybe a bit but really their is not a lot of difference between DSL and Cable Modem service.  These days in the Bay Area most cable service is provided by Comcast but before Comcast purchased this service it was provided by AT&T.  This is the company that permanently cut off 6 million email accounts to cable modem users in one day!  The bottom line is Cable Modem service like DSL is probably OK for home users.
 

We need to be Online all the time.  What's the best type of bandwidth for us?
 
  The most reliable service is T-1, but it is expensive.  If you are on a budget and still need service that is "up-all-the-time", check out a partial T-1.  We can help you with that assessment.

Why does my email address now end in 95minna.com instead of danknox.com?
 
  Only employees of Dan Knox Consulting may have their primary email address use the DanKnox.com domain name.  Other mail users who don't have their own domain name have 95minna.com as their default domain name for their email accounts.

How do I get to my voice mail via a telephone connection?
 
  For most users just dial 415-869-1338 and follow the instructions.
How do I get to my voice mail via an internet connection?
 
  Most users should go to our mail web site and click on the telephone logo in the upper left hand corner. 
How do I forward my calls from my TeleVantage Phone to another number?
 
  If your account is on the DKC system open a browser and go to our main web page, www.danknox.com.  Click on the blue and while telephone icon in the upper left hand corner.  You will be prompted to logon to the Artisoft TeleVantage server.  Once you are logged on you will see "Call Forwarding" in the lower right hand corner.  Click on it and you can change the options.  Make sure to click on the Disk icon in the top right to save changes before you close.
 
How do I find DKC Tech Tips?
 
  Just click here.  Alternatively from our "Home Page" you click on "Cool Stuff" and then "Tech Tips".
 
How do I get to my web mail?
 
  For most users on our "Main" Post Office the address is http://mail.danknox.com/exchange.  Just input your logon and password and you should be able to view you mail.  If you email account is on a server at our Co-Lo you will be redirected but you may be prompted for to logon twice.
